Fourth of July Festivities: Once again the Fourth of July festivities begin at 1:00 pm on Sunday, July 4, and offer fun games for all ages in the different pools! Please watch for further information at the pool.

Water Ballet: This year the Water Ballet Show is scheduled for Friday, July 9. Kathy Dougherty, Jenny Corkran, and Sue Metzger will be chairing this event.

Float Sunday: Bring your favorite float and come on down to the big pool on Sunday, July 18! This much-anticipated event begins at 1pm and includes a break for root beer floats in the picnic area at 3:00 pm! Bring the entire family and see the great floats that appear on the scene!
Family Party for Entire Club: This is the end of the year awards dinner for the swim and dive teams, and is open to all members of the Martin’s Dam community. This year it will be on Saturday, July 31 at approximately 6:30pm (depending on the completion of A Champs). Come for food and dancing to celebrate the end of the competitive swim season. Watch for further details.
Recreational Information
Frogs: Young children must pass a water safety test, dubbed the "Frog Test" in order to swim in the big pool without an adult. The "Frog Test" is a requirement for participation on the swim or dive teams, in water ballet, and to be allowed to use the diving boards and sliding board. Please see test description below. Please note: The dive well may be used for Water Ballet practice Monday, June 28 to Friday, July 9 from late afternoon to closing. Check with office for exact times.
Adult Lap Swim: The end of the large pool near the entrance will be reserved for lap swimming for adults on weekdays from 4:30 - 6:00 PM.
Early Morning Long Course: Practice begins on Monday, June 21 from 6:30-8:00 AM. Practices are held on Mon., Tues., and Fri. This is open to all Martin’s Dam swimmers, ages 12 and up. Please contact Coach Danny Reichert if you have any questions.
Life Guarding Course: Mrs. Edith Rowland, an Episcopal Academy teacher and a certified Red Cross instructor, will offer an American Red Cross Life Guarding Course again this summer. This course, taken in conjunction with the Red Cross First Aid and CPR courses, will provide the skills needed to become a lifeguard at a swimming pool. In order to participate in the course you must be 15 years old or in 10th grade. The fee for the Life Guard Course, which includes about 22 hours of poolside instruction in the evenings and on Saturday mornings, and all materials necessary, will be $300.00. Renewal certification for life guarding, including a refresher first aide, CPR and life guarding course is also available. Call Mrs. Rowland for details. Mrs. Rowland will meet with the candidates on Thursday, June 3, (rain or shine) at 4:00 PM beside the pool, under the flagpole. Wear a swimsuit and bring a towel! The course will be taught at Martin's Dam and also at the pool at Waynesboro Country Club. Please call Mrs. Rowland (610-296-9697, after 6pm) by May 14th if you wish to take the course. Friends of MDC may also participate.
"Frog test": To pass the test the child must swim the length of the big pool using rotary breathing and stop and tread water for two minutes in the middle of the pool en route to the far end of the pool. Check with a Manager or at the pool desk for the times that the Frog Test will be given. The names of the new “Frog” recipients will be posted on a special bulletin board by the entrance. Children who pass are awarded an embroidered “frog patch” to sew on their bathing suits. Children who have not passed their “Frog Test” may use the intermediate pool; children who have passed the “Frog Test” will not be allowed in the baby pool.
Private Swimming and Diving lessons: The Martin's Dam Guards will be available for private lessons for a fee. Sign up at the front desk.
Intra-Club Swimming and Diving Meets: These are open to all Martins Dam members. They offer a fun and friendly environment to compete within a member’s own age and division. Ribbons will be awarded to all participants in each age group (8 and under, 9 & 10, 11 & 12, 13 & 14). Please see website calendar for dates as well as specific team pages for further details..
